Fain application

Fain technology enables production of the tenside mixture containing Fain, which has been used for years in various products manufactured by Oy Faintend Ltd. Fain surfactant is listed in the European Inventory of Existing Chemical Substances (EINECS). Oy Faintend Ltd has been registered in European Union as a manufacturer of cosmetic products and FAIN surfactant is registered according to REACH regulation.

    • High foaming anionic tenside
    • Excellent capability to lower surface tension of water
    • Hydrotrope
    • Non-irritating
    • Biodegradable

Following dedicated, thorough basic research and product development we have achieved the easily and rapidly biodegradable Fain special surfactant mixture. From this we have been able to refine the unique GREENFAIN surfactant among our other specialty products. GREENFAIN is easily biodegradable and helps to save water, fertilizers, time and money.

During the product development we have cooperated with the Tampere University of Technology, the Department of Materials Science of the University of Turku, the Lappeenranta University of Technology, and with a number of private and authorized laboratories. Several different test and analysis reports on the patented Fain technology and Fain products are available(COST, OECD 301E, ISO862, AISE/EC, OECD405, VTT, REACH).

During the production process there are no emissions or effluents and the surface active agents of our products are quickly and easily biodegradable, in accordance with EU regulations.  Fain special surfactant is fully water-soluble and it does not leave any harmful residues in water or ground.

Faintend cherishes green values and is committed to protecting them. This means producing eco-friendly and in all respects safe, high quality products. Faintend technology is noise-free and odour-free, and it does not pollute the ground, air or water. Fain products do not cause irritation to the skin or other discomfort to users, and the products are biodegradeable and water-soluble. All our products are manufactured following a strictly controlled development and production process.

COLLABORATIVE R&D

For several years the company has participated in collaborative R&D with Tampere Technical University, Turku University materials unit and various other specialists. Manufacturing technology is led by environmental values. There are no emissions to ground or surface water, air or soil. We focus on making user-friendly products with first class qualities.

FAIN SPECIAL TENSIDE MIXTURE RESEARCH AND TEST RESULTS

1. Research: Acute toxicity/1990 number 322

The acute toxicity was researched by Van den Varden-method and mouses of CBWA-line (60 mouses). Fain tenside was dosed to mouth and internally to stomach. Average lethal dose via mouth (LD50) was 6700 mg / weight kilogram of tested animal. The test was made by using 3 different mixtures to 30 test animals.

2. Research: Allergizing effect/1990 number 322

A test of allergizing effect (active skin anaphylaxis) was made by Overt test to 500 g weight guinea pigs. The number of test subjects was 50. The test showed that Fain tenside had no allergizing effect on used dosages, which were 2,5 g, 1,2 g and 2,5 g/weight kilogram.

3. Research: Sinking test. VTT (Technical Research centre of Finland) MRG52/92

The result from the test was following: in the sinking test, the mass loss for pure tap water (pH 7,3) was 2,9 mg/dm and 2 for ion exchanged water. The result for undiluted (100%) Fain tenside mixture was 1,6 – in other words better than the values for tap and ion exchanged water. For diluted (50%) Fain tenside mixture, the result was 1,9 which was also better than the values for tap and ion exchanged water.

4. Research: Grease removing properties. MRG314/92

Technical Research centre of Finland (VTT) metallurgy laboratory made a test for Fain washing agent in May 1992, where the capability of Fain washing agent solutions to remove grease was measured. Fain special tenside mixture (30%) washed the material completely clear. This means in practice that Fain special tenside is very good at grease removal. It will also cause no problems on painting after cleaning.

5. Research: Stain removal ability. VTT Textile laboratory. TEX203/92

Technical Research centre of Finland (VTT) Textile laboratory made a stain removal ability test in June 1992. Test results showed that Fain special tenside mixture had a better than average ability to remove grease and dirt.

6. Research: Biological degradability. Institut Fresenius, Saksa, IF-92/20179-01/93.

Test method OECD-Test Guideline 301E/ 93.
Biodegradability of Fain tenside was measured between 13 January to 19 March, 1993. The method was OECD-Test Guideline 301 E. The control substance was sodium benzoate (C7H5NaO2). The results showed that Fain tenside, both undiluted, and diluted with two different sewer water, is biodegradable.

7. Research: HPLC analysis Fain surfactant mixture, Hickson Manro Ltd, England 1993

Multinational Hickson-Manro -companies tested the amount of anionic and nonionic tensides in Fain tenside mixture during year 1993. The result showed a 40-40 ratio as was predicted earlier.

10. Research: (Biodegradability of Fain tenside, SFS-Environmental label, 1998)

As a result of the research, SFS commented that Fain tenside is a biologically easily and quickly biodegradable product.

11. Test: Skin irritation test, Oy Ars Pathologiae Inc December 1999

Clinical tests showed that Fain 1 and Fain 3 are non-irritating according to Association internationale de la Savonnerie et de la Détergence’s guidelines (AIS guidelines for irritancy assessment, page 6) and EC classifications (Annex VI to Directive no 67/548EEC, O.J. L110, 57, 4 May 1993).

12. Test: Formaldehyde research, Customs laboratory February 2003

Tests were made with a liquid chromatographic determination from Fain special tenside mixture and from samples taken from washing agents manufactured from Fain tenside between 1998–2002. The tests showed that at all researched samples the amount of formaldehyde was under < 0,001 %.

13. Eye irritation test 2006

An eye irritation test was made with Fain special tenside in Turku University central hospital (TYKS) according to OECD 405. The test showed that Fain special tenside is not an eye irritant.
